NXPowerLite is particularly effective at shrinking images found in PDF and Microsoft Office files, as well as standalone JPEGs, because they are already compressed. Zip is better at long strings of characters in text-based Word documents or data-heavy Excel files. So we made it so you can let NXPowerLite do both at the same time so you don’t even have to think about it.īut why, you ask, do I need Zip compression if I can compress my files directly with NXPowerLite? Well, some files don’t optimize well and some don’t zip well: It’s not always easy to tell just by looking at a file whether it will compress well with NXPowerLite or with Zip - having to try either zipping or optimizing individually to see which works would be painful. Sometimes people want to compress and collect their files all together into a single file for ease of sharing or storage and we wanted to make that as easy as possible. Getting a file down to its smallest possible form is just one reason for incorporating zip in our software.
It’s for this reason that we decided to add zip capabilities to NXPowerLite Desktop and also why we decided to make it much easier to do so in NXPowerLite Desktop 8 by adding shortcuts into the Explorer right-click menu and the results page after using our software. This way the file will be as small as is physically possible. Sometimes it’s possible to impart a greater level of compression by zipping a file after using our software to shrink it. File optimisation doesn’t necessarily stop with just the individual file you’re looking to shrink.
